Wednesday Weird: The Jakarta Angel

I was going to do a post about radio transmissions from space. Or radio transmission from Russia that hasn't stopped in, like, decades, but those will have to wait for another Wednesday.

Since tomorrow is the World Horror Convention in New Orleans I'm going to pick something that's a little zazzier. And has a video!!

Okay, I'm coming right out and saying that this video is much more suspect than the things I usually post, but it's a fun video and I like it so you're getting it anyway.

This is security footage from Cilandak Square, in Jakarta, Indonesia.

All right, so you can see how this could easily be CGI. Still, I love watching this video over and over again. The things that I like about it (whether it's fake or not) are the people's reactions. If this were just security footage of the supposed angel, it would be cool but no biggie. But when the people show up like you better believe they just saw something, it makes me sit up and take notice.

I also like how the light from the angel reflects off the structure across the lot from it. If it is CGI (ahem) that's some damn fine attention to detail.

So there you have it. The Jakarta Angel. Thoughts? Do you think the video is as fun to watch as I do?

Cool. I kept trying to pause it at the pivotal moment to see if there was an dimension to the figure, but I couldn't catch it just right.

The edges were so sharp, I suspect someone is transmitting an angel version of the Batman signal, but who knows?

Looks totally fake.

It is really goofy looking, and I keep having concerns with the lights and shadows and stuff. But then there are other parts that look really great. Like I keep looking at the shadows of the trees and thinking those should be wiped out, but then the light on the planter is perfect for lighting up that part of the planter will also having a new shadow from the other planter.

The other big thing to me is that the people who run over have a flashlight. That seems really suspicious, but as they're leaving, that last guy to leave the scene looks really reluctant to be going, like he just saw something that blew his mind, and he doesn't want it to end (holy run on sentence, Batman!).

This one is more interesting than the usual fake if for nothing more than getting some pretty good actors.

Yeah, looks like a light projection, maybe... Not buying it, but would be fun to do... or to write into a plot...

Cool video, and yeah, rather suspect. It would be big fun to attend a world horror conf, BTW!

Wowza, that's all kinds of weird. I'd usually call Pshop on stuff like that, but it's pretty impressive if it is.

Like Rena, the person with the flashlight seems suspicious to me (in terms of it being staged).

But even if it is a fake, it's a well done fake, and that's notable in and of itself.

Looks like maybe electrical discharge on the way down, but when it take off again, pretty crazy.

I adore this kind of stuff! I find it punches my "what if" button pretty hard (a good thing).
