In Which It Keeps Raining

How was everyone's weekend? Did you do anything fun for Mother's Day? Or fun just because?

We celebrated Mother's Day a day early since Twin works on Sundays.

Twin, our Mom and I hit up an annual plant sale. It's massive and hosted at our State Fair grounds. We bought an apple tree and a hazelnut shrub. As well as veggies and herbs. Our mom also bought some shady plants for our cabin.

Then we went home, planned a baby shower for our cousin, played some dominoes, ate take out, cooked some smores and sat in the hot-tub. All in all, it was a pretty fun day.

It's been raining on and off here for pretty much a week. And we have another week of rain coming up, too. Which, I mean, I know it's good. The lakes can use the water. But also, our lawn is really long and could use a mowing but we just haven't been able to find a dry spell to do so.

Also, I'd really love it to be warmer, high sixties or low seventies, instead of wet and cold. It's May and I feel like it should be nicer. And, you know, whine whine whine.

Come on down here - we were close to ninety degrees this past weekend.
Sounds like you had a fun day with mom anyway.

At least you didn't get the snow that hit Colorado. Snow in May! Sheesh!

What kind of apple variety did you get?

Going to the plant store and getting stuff for the garden is one of my fave activities. We had sun up in our getaway, and we watched the premiere of Penny Dreadful, awesome TV!
And I got outdoor time, lounging, walking, hanging out with my son and hubby.

I was going to say what Maria said...that snow in Colorado is crazy. I don't mind snow terribly, but having that much of it in mid-May would put me over the edge.

I won't see my mother until later this week, but I did go out and pick up a lilac tree for her. Now I just have to keep it alive until Thursday.

Love plant sales (and yay for a hazelnut shrub, that sounds pretty cool (and hazelnut soup!!!).

As for the rain and the cold, I've got nothing. Here in California we are moving into our dry season, and we've had less than half our normal rainfall (yikes), and are living under water rationing. But the weather has been nice-ish. I'm not saying to feel lucky, because if the weather isn't doing what you want, that sucks. I am posting solidarity in the "Why won't the weather do the things we need?" category.

I didn't do anything special with mom on Mother's Day. She's lost her mind so can barely talk on the phone. What I do instead is travel up there three times a year and stay for five days. During that five days I sit with her and take her to get her hair fixed and take her to the pedicure place so they can cut her very thick toenails. Old age isn't pretty so I kind of have a system in place. But I think Mother's Day for other people who have very healthy mothers is probably a special occasion.

That much rain in Minnesota in May is not good. It's going to mean epic levels of mosquitoes this summer!

Rain is great but there comes a point when you just need some sunshine, dammit!

So, what constitutes a shady plant? Does it hang out in back alleys and try to convince the bees to freebase its pollen? :D

I worked on Mother's Day too (and it sucked balls). Actually worked all weekend AND Monday. Double ball suck! (eww)

I wish you'd send some rain our way! It's rained for a few hours in the past month, I think...
