Insecure Writer's Support Group

So, I totally missed last month's IWSG. I just completely didn't realize it was the first of the month or something.

My bad.

But here we are! The first IWSG for fall 2014. I cannot believe how fast the year is going.

As I mentioned on Monday, and a few weeks ago, I have been crazy busy. I knew going in that September was going to be my hell month, and it more or less was.

I had edits for All That Remains to finish up. I also had a bunch of pages on my still untitled WIP to turn in for my next MFA packet (that's due on Friday) as well as a ten page paper to write.

I probably should have been super stressed and junk. But surprisingly I wasn't. I mean, I could kind of feel that it was there, just hovering behind me, waiting. All "hey, are you suuuure you don't want to have some sort of stress freakout?"

But I was like, eh, no thanks. Instead I think I'll put my head down and get back to work.

I had definitely reached the point, though, where I had so much work that the only way out was through it. Which is in general I guess a good attitude to have. And honestly, if I had that attitude all the time things probably wouldn't stack up as much (though, to be fair, September Hell Month was just a timing thing and not brought about by slacking or anything.)

On the plus side about getting through September is now I have a bit of breathing room.

Until November that is, when NaNo starts. And yes I'm participating this year. I have a sequel to write. Which means my goal for October is to try and finish my WIP.

Will I be able to? Guess it's time to find out.

Basically, you were too busy - you didn't have time to stress!

I'm pretty unsure about NaNo this year. I have some things on my plate (not to mention last year's NaNo project left completely sad and unfinished!). On the other hand, there's the whole full time job thing.

Choices choices.

Of course, I'll sign up. It's better to be a slow writer than a no writer.

I'm hoping you do get to finish it in October. I applaud anyone who plays along with NaNo. It stressed me out the one time I tried. Truth, I probably should do it. I've got a serial series to complete that's due for publication in the spring.

Deadlines help focus me and I don't feel as stressed when they're set and I have to work through it. You sound busy and happy.

Nice to be having conversations with your stress muse. "Nah, I'm good with my stress levels. Thanks anyway." :-D

Or, even better, "I'm too busy now to stress out. Call me in a few weeks. We'll touch base." ;-P

Worlds of luck with Nano. I'm participating too - will look you up.

September was a hell month for me, too, for completely unrelated-to-writing reasons (like going back to work during a historically slow month and being crazy busy).

I'll be doing NaNo this year, too! And I actually mean it this time. I should look you up. :)
