In Which We Find Awesome Costumes

Today I continue with my MN Renfest posts. For the post regarding all the delicious food, check out yesterday's post

The MN and the TX Renfests are the biggest in the nation. One has the most land and one has the most attendance. I forget which one has which. Either way, both are awesomely huge.

One of the best things about the MN Renaissance Festival are the myriad of awesome costumes you can find. I personally own three different costumes, and Twin and Brother each own two.

Typically we just wear our current favorites and use the others to lend to friends who want to go dressed up. Dressing up is awesome because you don't get hassled for "modern clothing" and junk. Also it's fun.

Here we are with our current costumes:

Me, Twin, Brother

I'm always jealous of Twin's ability to look good in hats, and therefore her ability to buy awesome hats.

Twin says "how dares you take a photo of me..."

But she says she gets jealous of my ability to buy awesome hair pieces.

The key to looking really authentic (blending in with those who work there) are the little pieces. For example, here's what I carry on my belt:

my pouch

fox tail

wooden bowl with wooden spoon/fork

wooden mug

flask

here's a close up of the inlay

Here are some pics of street performers and the occasional visitor with fun costumes.

mug shot

the best pickle guy

I rushed over to take a pic of this baby since I love babies in period accurate costumes, and then when I got over there I realized I knew this guy. Hannah, Teebore and I used to work with him at Barnes and Noble. Awkward...

This little girl was too adorable not to take a picture of her

Greenman

This fairy (one of many...) blows bubbles with her fingers

The king got married this year. This was before the ceremony (held at the renfest, of course)

nose flautist

Brother's eyes look freakishly pale in this pic.

I LOVE this faun!

she really gets into character. But not in a creepy way like some people. More like an adorable way

she (Twig) gets into character in a creepy way. Does she look familiar to you? She should. She's my drunken muse, just sober. To be fair, the kids love her

mud girl

she made it hard to take pictures of her

Beer harpist

Jesus

Buddy Christ

Buddy death?

The Queen Marm

If you pay this guy $1, he'll kick himself in the back of the head

It's as amazing as it sounds

In Which The Fest Is Over

October is an awesome month for many different reasons. Halloween, fall, pumpkins etc., etc.

One sad thing about October, though, is that it signals the end of the MN Renaissance Festival season. Sad boosh.

So for this week, my posts will be full of photos of the awesomeness that is the Renfest. I will be posting Monday-Friday this week in order to fit it all in.

Today, I will showcase the delicious, delicious food, since it's Monday and I'd rather look at nummy pics than do work or whatever.

Because we go every weekend we have plenty of time to try tons of different foods. There are a few things we get every time (cheese curds, berries and cream) but in general we zazz it up every weekend.

Onto the food pics!

beer cheese soup in a bread bowl. A staple on any cooler days

turkey leg

Florentine ice. It will make your lips red

beef on weck. Twin and I don't like it, but Brother gets it a few times a year

scotch egg. YUM

banger sausage

berries and cream. I wish I had some right now

fried cauliflower and mushrooms

cheese curds. drooooool. I like these better than the MN State Fair curds, regardless of what Hannah says on her blog

spinach pie. I eat this every weekend and this year I bought a whole pie, frozen, to eat later this winter

ribs. We just found these this year. DELICIOUS

roasted boar. SO. GOOD.

Chicken on a stick.

Friday Fun Words

Hi all! Yvie's back, here to provide you with new words to expand you vocabulary.

Funny story. Mom and I were looking at the blog stats provided by blogger and for that week, one of the search terms that led people to the blog was... wait for it...

MOLOIL!

That's right! One of my Friday Fun Words, all the way back from February, has attracted people to the blog!

And Mom says I don't do any work...

Onto the words!

Prell - a pretend yell

look at these fakers...

Plize - a prize lie. These are particularly painful, because instead of getting a prize, you get a lie

Dention - detention for teeth. Those naughty naughty teeth

Jagslick - a super nice jaguar car. Which is kinda redundant because aren't they all super nice?

guess not...

Shiproc - two meanings: 1. the reason a boat crashes. 2. A boat for a giant mythological bird. It would have to be a Big boat...

it would need a bigger boat than this. But at least this one comes with snacks

And that's it for this week, ape-friends - have a nice weekend and don't forget your moloil!
