In Which I Do A Dance

The "I finished a novel" dance of course!

It looks a little something like that, though to be fair I kinda hurt my back shoveling on Saturday, so it was much more restrained. You can ask twin, she'll vouch for me (she'd better...)

So, the working titled Glimpse of Another Shore is now completed at 58K words. Also, because I edited as I wrote (which was awesome by the way, I highly recommend it) I'm also technically done with my first line edit as well! wOOt!

Here are some fun stats:

This is my second novel completed in 2010 (though to be fair, Foxfire was started in late 09)

This is my first novel written in First POV (though I've done many a short story in first POV)

This is my first full length YA novel. I had a lot of fun and now think I may delve into YA more often. Also the shorter length required for YA is kinda nice.

I love it. A lot. I think some of my love has to do with the very minimal amount of editing and rewriting that needs to be done, but I don't even care. I LOVE IT.

So now I'm giving it another read through for a quick line edit. I'm also adding chapter breaks instead of just scene breaks. Then it will go to Twin for a read (since she's my alpha/beta reader) and also Hannah and Teebore who are my awesome crit partners.

After that I may look for a few other betas as well, peeps who read a lot of YA, preferably fantasy YA. So if that's you, we may be chatting later if you're interested (I'll make a post about it in the future)

So, how is your WIP coming?

It's such a good feeling to finish.

I'm in the middle of edits, but maybe I'll go back to that wip before the year ends.

Congrats, Sarah! You've every reason to celebrate.

Are you going to take the CreateSpace offer, especially since you have that fancy cover designed for you?? You should.

Congrats on finishing!! That's such a great feeling. I've finished 2 novels this year, but haven't written one from start to finish. My sad NaNo doesn't count. So I'm finishing up reading through it today, and then I'm going to start out fresh with one of my three ideas...

Congrats! I hope there were some favorite snackies and drinkies to go with the happy dance. That would have helped with the back issue. :)

Yay! Huge congrats! *tosses confetti* (And I love the dance)

Also--2 novels in 2010? Wow, I'm horribly impressed. A little jealous. But mostly impressed. :D

Woo-hoo! That's awesome news, Falen! Congratulations! :-)

WooHoooo!!! I'd say something like, "What an awesome feeling!"- but the truth is, I'd have no experience with that. My Nano novel topped out at ~7000 words, but hey, it's a start right?! You are- and always will be my hero.

KodasTotems said...

OMG Sarah, I have been so busy with school and work that I fell out of the blog-reading/writing for awhile and just now caught up (at least somewhat). It is so EXCITING THAT YOUR COVER was done for NANO! I just now read that!!! Somehow I knew you'd be picked! And it's beautiful, don't you think? How motivating and just plain awesome!!!

Teebore - i plan on sending it to you (with aforementioned questionnaire) either this evening or tomorry

Summer - i've never really paid much attention to the create space offer, but maybe this year i will. I've got a lot of time for that, right?

Aspiring - awww, thanks!

Janel - well i did eat some dark chocolate...we'll just say i ate it in celebration *shifts eyes*

Laurel - i think everyone's day can be made a little better with dumbledore dancing

Holly - thanks! And it is

Shannon - 2010 was a great year for me. But please don't ask how many completed novel i have from before 2010

Shannon - thanks so much!

Kodas - hey, but your 7K is 7K more than you had 30 days ago so that is a win right there

Alex - yeah, but know what's awesome? I just finished your book!

Congratulations, don't you just love that feeling of satisfaction you get from finishing a novel?? In my case most recently it was more like a sigh of relief followed quickly by collapse and a good long stare at the wall, but...yeah, in the end I felt great :D

Carolina Valdez Miller said...

Yay!!! Congratulations, Sarah!! Such a good news. And how exciting that you've completed a second one in one year--and a new genre at that! Woo-hoo! Welcome to the YA club! ;)

CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's HUGE!--and funny--this WriMo was my first first person book, too, and I also wrote YA when normally I stick to adult--though mystery, not fantasy...

Anyway--huge congrats!!! Well done!!!

Nate Wilson said...

That's fantastic, Falen! I wish you the best as your story goes through Alpha/Beta and Crit. I know you posted this yesterday, but I hope you're still dancin'.

As for my WIP...yeah, I knew there was something I was supposed to be doing. Maybe some day I'll learn how not to procrastinate, and get to do a dance of my very own.
