Brother decided he would draw a cover for my novel. Back in the day he wrote a comic strip for his school newspaper. It was really good and Twin and I keep harping on him to make a webcomic, but so far, no dice.
Anyway, back to his "cover" - this was before I won the cover for 30 Covers 30 Days. Keep in mind he didn't know anything much about the story beyond "A boy and his sea serpent".
Here is his work of genius:
The text, in case you can't read it says:
"You gotta believe!"
- a touching story about a boy and his sea serpent friend and their rage-filled fight against the world
Written by Sarah Ahiers
Illustrated by Sir Patrick Ahiers
Apparently at some point Brother was knighted.
Twin also drew a (more serious) picture for the WIP. Here's the colored pencil version, though I have high hopes she will color it with her awesome art tablet on the computer (hint hint)
I'm a particular fan of the fish.
So what about you? Do you have any art created for your WIPs?

I have NEVER created cover art. Why is this bizarre? Because my first profession was in graphic design and illustration. D'oh!

ROTFL!
And you didn't even get invited to the ceremony. Le sigh.
LOL! I think all brothers give themselves titles that haven't exactly earned. Mine often likes to refer to himself as Boy Genius...though he's no longer a boy nor was he ever a genius.
I like the fish too. I especially love that Nemo found his way into your story!! :D
No one has ever created art for me. LOL! Pat's picture still makes me laugh. I can hear the "yeah" in my head. It's all very high pitched and Free Willy-ish. Terrific.
I especially love the colors on the sea serpent in Anne's. I approve.
Ooh, fancy! I likes. :)
No art for me...except what I made myself for the Nano page.
Whenever I'm faced with someone who mispronounces a word, I always make a point to say the word too, but correctly. And we go back and forth until I feel like I might faint, but it's always worth it.
Never created any art for any of mine here - and there's a good reason why. I'm sure my three year old granddaughter could do a better job than I.
Maria - he probably had the ceremony in a dark closet somewhere
Tracy- Hah! Boy Genius title is hilarious!
Hannah - i can't read it without saying it like that. I approve of the colors as well
Summer - in this case the guy is so nice, i just pretend i don't hear him saying it
Jaydee - ooh maybe you should commission her to do some art for you! ;)
I can't draw so I don't do anything like this, but yours are awesome.
so much fun!
sometimes i draw out bits of my story... but it's all in the spirit of procrastination- and never looks like it does in my head!!
I don't do art but I like yours. I couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler and the only crayons in my box are pink and green.
And well, now that you know your brother is a knight, you can call him Sir Brother.
Awwww, so cute. I like them both. I’m impressed your brother was knighted. I created art for my children’s story in the end it helped me right a better story – or at least I think so. It is yet to be determined by the “powers that be.”
These are great! =)
I haven't made any cover art, but Michael is an artist, so he's helped me draw/create my world.
Now we need the story behind the knighting of your brother!
Matthew - drawing is like writing - the more you do, the better you get
Aspiring - oh yeah, drawing for procrastination is AWESOME
Anne - pink and green are pretty awesome colors, though
Holly - your art is amazing! and i've had the same thing, where something Twin has drawn for me has changed how i write an aspect in the story
Shannon - it's great when you have an artist at your beck and call ;)
Alex - i'll ask him. I'm sure it's quite ludicrous
i really want to color it digitally, but it's hard since it's trapped in the back room (if i could work on it while we're out playing video games or watching tv, well it'd probably be done by now)
And of course, you know i started it but then had to start over due to a 'Fill Bucket' malfunction...
I like the fish too!
I haven't created an art but than again, I'm the worst artist ever. I can't even draw a stick figure.
I love your story more now that I know the fight is "rage-filled".
Great stuff guys!
I've sketched out potential covers for my WIP, but -- despite my design background -- never created anything remotely worthy of sharing on the interwebs. But now, with your siblings' work as inspiration, I may have to do just that.
Anne - pshaa, you're in there all the time for FB! You could FB in the living room and art it up in the back room. Problem solved
Talli - do your stick men emerge as circles?
Nate - DO IT! I want to see!
No art for me, but I love yours. I am particularly fond of the cool yellow jellyfish.
Love the art!
I haven't created any cover art for my wip's yet, but now I'm tempted to give it a go. :)
i can't do FB in the living room if you're on FB in the living room
also i get lonely
Sadly, I have no art. None. Zippo. I can't draw to save my own hide. Nothing but blobs, and I haven't shared my work with many people, let alone artists. So sad. You are so lucky. What lovely art work!
Oh, these are FABULOUS! And I am cracking up over your brother being secretly knighted. That's a little bit beautiful *snort* Now I want to read your book! (not that I didn't before, but that description on your brother's version is great! (and I agree--love the fish in the other (and the jelly fish)
That is some admirable art. I don't have any as of yet, but this post has made me want some . . .
Tara - yeah i like the jellyfish as well
Lindsay - do it! It's fun!
Anne - behn, you know i'm rarely on FB
Carolina - but blobs ARE an art form! ;)
Hart - yeah he certainly makes it sound dramatic. he's good at that
Kelly - it's awesome when you get some. Also, if the artists are typically people who rag on you for not writing, then you can rag on them for not drawing!
pretty sure i haven't ragged on you for not writing in years
What a talented, artful family you have, Sarah.
So much creativity happening in your household of siblings. Like a little artist colony. :)
God, you make up one little white lie about being knighted, then everyone starts to believe it so you have to stick with the lie and build more lies on top of that! You weren't invited to the ceremony because you always mock my welch homeland and rich heritage!
By the way, I had my agent write up a payment proposal for my artwork that will be gracing the cover of your book. It's steep, but fair. I also think the words "Rage Filled" should be bolded and take up a quarter of the cover.
I also think the words "Rage Filled" should be bolded and take up a quarter of the cover.
He's not wrong...
I love your brother! That is some seriously funny sh*t.
These are awesomesauce.
The only time I draw pictures is when I do stick figure or badly done Paint ones.
