In Which We Run

So, since I really, really wanted to lose weight and get in shape this year, Twin, Brother and I decided to give the Couch to 5K a try. We actually completed it two weeks ago and it was both hard and easy.

There was one week where you're running for 8 minutes, then walking for like 3, but at the end of the week you suddenly have to run for 20 min, which is a HUGE increase, but we all did it, and once we crossed that bridge, the last few weeks weren't bad.

Anyway, while we were doing all this, we discovered the wonderful awesomeness that is Run For Your Lives.

Run for Your Lives is a 5K, with obstacles. Oh, and zombies chase you.

Once Brother discovered this, back in January, we KNEW we had to compete. So we're signed up for the June 2nd Minneapolis run.

We're all super excited, both because we'll be running our first ever 5K (and actually be able to run the 5K) and also because there's zombies chasing you, trying to steal your flags.

If you make it out at the end with at least one flag remaining, you're considered a survivor and you get a survivor shirt. No flags means you died and you get a zombie shirt.

So we still have two months to train for it. Weather permitting (which is questionable right now) we're going to try running outside at least once this week, so wish us luck!

Here's a video of a 2012 Run For Your Lives in Atlanta. I'm just crossing my fingers that we'll have no rain, unlike them.

What about you? Would you participate?

Good for you and your brother.

Wow, now that zombie run is creative.

I def would not want to be a zombie at the end. I am thinking they get the crap plowed out of them by tired runners lowering their shoulder.

Oh, well done, that build to the 5K! Congratulations! And that run sounds like a total crack up.

Good for you. I wish I had your enthusiasm. And your stamina.

I want to sign up for this now! I used to run 2 miles in seventeen minutes. The problem is I've never trained for long distances.

And would they act like real zombies where I could trip the guy beside me to buy myself some time?

That is too cool! I just showed The Hubster and we registered for the one in Temecula (Cali) in October! How FUN! Thanks for sharing this!!

No flags means you died and you get a zombie shirt.

At least you get a shirt either way. :)

This? AMAZING!

I really wish there was a UK equivalent, but I'll be looking forward to see how you get on :)
Thanks for the info about Couch to 5K aswell, I've found the audio files that go with it and will be trying out the program this week :)

That video is NUTS! But I'm sensing some strategy. Sprint past the zombies and when in doubt, throw a hand block to guard your flags. Stick to the outer edges and try to stay in a group.

This is why I can't do it--too competitive. :) But I can't wait to hear how you guys do!

Who knows--I may even consider a future one!

Yes! Run for Your Lives is an awesome reason to learn to run 5k. You're hilarious. It's amazing what motivates us, sometimes.

I've gone so far as to print out the Couch to 5k training schedule...so it wasn't too bad?

If they had this in England, I would actually get off my backside and train for it.

Brilliant! The best use of a zombie I've ever seen.

I got my cover art. Squee.

Amazing! And I mean the part where you run. Because, seriously, I don't run, unless there are very large dogs behind me. I'd even let the zombies take me.

Congrats on that!

I love the Run for Your Lives. They did the Color Run this past weekend here in Atlanta. Basically, you run a 5K, and by the end you're covered in colored paint water. It looks like a giant paintball war happened.

Whoever came up with this is a genius and I want them to be my best friend.

Must check this out.
