Holy crap - this is my official 500th post. Cray cray!
(to be fair, there's got to be close to half a dozen "oops" posts in the history of this blog. But still. 500!)
Anyhoo, so here were are. December 3rd. NaNo is a few days behind us. You can see my Winner badge over to the right.
This was my fourth year competing and my fourth year winning. Though this is the first year it took me until the last day to hit the 50k.
Thanksgiving almost murdered me this year. I only had 10K left after the holiday, but man...a good 4K of that was like pulling teeth.
The good news is, I'm almost done with the first draft of my MS All That Remains (and this bugger is going to clock in at over 100k!) The bad news is, it's going to need a lot of work. I had to pants the ending and even though I had a perfectly serviceable outline for the rest of it and THOUGHT I knew what the themes and conflicts were, things morphed more than usual during the drafting. So everything needs to be really smoothed out and linked together and junk.
But that's okay. I like revising. I'm excited to get to work on it once it's done.
How did you NaNo 2012 treat you?

Congratulations on beating NaNo and on your 500 posts.
Congratulations! I know what you mean about pulling those teeth. Altho I didn't participate in NaNo I've been writing steadily on a ms. and then BLAM, it spiraled out of control, I lost my mind, went off the outline and totally screwed everything up. I was sitting at 40K and by the time I pulled everything apart and put it back together I was back down to 35K. Not fun. But I'm back on track and hope to finish by Christmas.
After putting off NaNo for 8 years, I'm so glad I finally took the plunge. I surprised myself, and I got to meet some incredible writers with all the write-ins and events I attended.
Congrats on winning!!!!
I did not "win" NaNo and I don't really care. I had too much going on this last week and it wore me out. BUT I'm really close to the end, so I'm not worried about finishing the book.
Congrats on the 500 and on the 50K! Winner Winner!!!
Congrats on the win, and Yeah, Thanksgiving was like the zombie apocalypse to my novel...
OMG! Nano and 500 posts...so amazing!! Big congrats.
How did you NaNo 2012 treat you?
Terribly. Well, life (work) treated me terribly in getting it done, as it ended up eating up more time than it should have.
Also, because this was a collaborative novel, I had a harder time than usual turning off my inner critic, which slowed me down (I was only averaging about 1K/hour, when I can usually do at least 1500).
But I'm not quitting until I'm done, so I'm still having at it. I really want to be done by Christmas...
Congrats on beating NaNo! Even if you pantsed the ending, the MS is done so you can relax a little before the editing quest begins :)

Go you!!! You know I didn't participate, but I'm looking forward to a distractionless January to get some serious writing done!
Congrats! That is a fantastic accomplishment. And year four too.
100k?!?!?!? Wow, I can't even imagine. But you're already half-way there, right? That's amazing! I think it's one of the great things about NaNo. It's kinda like a great jump start. Congrats on meeting your goal!
