In Which We Celebrate Halloween

Happy Halloween!

I hope you have a fun day full of candy! (mmmmm candy...)

Twin and I will watch a scary movie while handing out candy tonight.

BUT, what we really enjoy about Halloween is pumpkin carving (that, and the subsequent seed roasting). We each carve at least 2 pumpkins. It's always a challenge to make sure no one sees your design until we unveil them to each other.

I don't think this year was my best year, but it still turned out OK.

I like to do either large eyes or large mouths. Brother likes to point out that I excel at huge mouths with a crap load of sharp teeth. And this is true, I do.

Here are my pumpkins for 2010.

I wish I had taken the time to scrape the teeth of this one, but it was late and I was the last one carving as usual

Twin likes to do simple pumpkins. And she likes to brag that she's always the first one done. Which is true. She did 3 pumpkins this year

Brother typically likes to do weird or complicated ones, like a witch doctor wearing another pumpkin as a hat. Or a pumpkin who's been cut in half by a scythe.

Unfortunately it was late by the time we were done, so we didn't have time to roast the pumpkin seeds, so no picture yet of those. Hopefully I'll have a picture of that tonight.

Does anyone else carve pumpkins, or do anything fun for Halloween?

I didn't carve the first pumpkin, it was getting yucky, so I just roasted the seeds. Tonight Monster Baby and I will carve. We don't trick or treat. Happy Halloween!

Ooh, those are awesome! We bought some little pumpkins, but we're going to try to dry them like gourds instead of anything else.

No trick-or-treaters for us--we live in the woods. :D

These came out GREAT! You guys are masters of pumpkin carving. Happy Halloween -- I'm off to munch on some roasted pumpkin seeds. Definitely one of my favorite things about Halloween!

OMG, I lurve pumpkin seeds!!! Love them. The Man and I were going to carve pumpkins this year but we've both been so busy that by the time we think of it it's like 9pm and we're old. Next year we will hopefully, when we have our own place.

Haven't carved a pumpkin in years. Was Yvie upset none of the pumpkins resembled her?

I love these pumpkins!! I've actually never carved one (*gasp* I know) but I couldn't do one as awesome as these.

Those are some awesome pumpkins. I always carve one or two. It's my favorite part of Halloween, so I posted my pumpkin face, as well. Happy Halloween!

Hannah - yeah, keep in mind when i say it was "getting late" i mean it was 9 pm...

Dezmond - aww thanks!

Alex - Yvie was mostly upset that she didn't get to eat one of the pumpkins

Shelley - Never carved one?! How is that possible?

Tricia - ooh exciting! off to see it now!

*Amazing* pumpkins, all of them!! Boo hoo--I can't get carving-sized pumpkins over here. Seeing yours makes me want to do that with the kids. They all just looked at your pics and went "ooooohhh!" Kid approved:)) There's no trick-or-treating in Japan, so I buy candy, draw a bunch of little maps to hiding places all over the house, turn out the lights, and let them have a treasure hunt with flashlights to find their candy. Works pretty well under the circumstances:)) They like giggling through the house with flashlights...

Yokohama - AWWW! Candy treasure hunt sounds AWESOME! That's too bad about the carving size pumpkins, because that is a fun activity

I like carving pumpkins, but haven't for a few years. Having zero trick-or-treaters come to your house somewhat deflates the desire to have jack o-lanterns out on the front step...

Sarah Ahiers said...

yeah, but we always carve them regardless. Also, we like pumpkin seeds

Awesome! I love the pumpkin with the o.0 face!

My Hallowe'en was in 2 parts. In the day I did apple bobbing with my sister, made cookies and carved a pumpkin, then once she went to bed I opened a few beers and watched Land of the Dead with my brothers before watching Paranormal Activity alone at 2am. I didn't scare myself (sadly) but it was a good Hallowe'en nonetheless :)
