We had a big snow melt here. I could actually see spots of grass and our patio. It was pawesome. Then we had another blizzard and we're back up to where we were before.

In Which I'm In A Slump

As the title says, I'm in a bit of a blogging slump right now. I have some blog post ideas, but I just can't find the energy to write them.

I even came up with a good idea in the shower (You know, thank god for the shower. My stories would be less fleshed out and my blog emptier without my time in the shower. For reals.) but when I sat down to blog about it, I was just met with a "meh" feeling.






So, I think I will take a small blogging break. Not too big, just for next week. By then, I should have some mojo back. I should, at the very least, have a WIP update by then since I'm starting to hear back from my beta readers (though I'm still waiting on my critique from Agent Sara Megibow. And the closer it gets to the end of February, the more crazy I get about checking my email for it.)

So, Yvie will still have a Friday Fun this week, but then we'll be on a break for next week.

Hopefully I'll see you back here then!

Friday Fun

Hiya Ape-friends! How was your week? Full of stuff? Hoomin stuff? Of course it was.
Well here I am, Yvie, to try and launch you into the weekend with a blog post of fun.

First, though, a quick personal message about something important to me.

As you know, I was a shelter pup. That's right, wonderful, glorious moi, was dropped off at a shelter as a little pup, scared and alone.
Good thing that only lasted a day before I was brought to my forever home!

Once a year the Animal Humane Society has a Walk For Animals, where participants can raise money for AHS to help provide for all the animals in need. It's the biggest walk in the whole nation!

I know times are tough for many of my ape-friends out there, but if you can spare a few extra dollars, please consider donating to my walk and our team (Our team name is Team Super Awesome Cool Dynamite Wolf Squadron).

This blogfest is designed to bring as many of us together, to get to know each other better. And I thought it'd be fun to use Bernard Pivot's famous questionnaire to do it.



Anyone who's watched Inside the Actor's Studio will be familiar with the questionnaire. The show's host, James Lipton, asks it of every celebrity guest at the close of the interview. The questionnaire was originally created by Bernard Pivot, a French journalist, for the cultural series he hosted on French television from 1991-2001, called Bouillon de Culture.



What I love about the questionnaire is you can either answer the questions with all the truth in your heart, or you can approach them with creativity and cleverness -- finding answers or deliveries no one else has ever come up with. But which ever way you go, each of your answers will be revealing, telling us interesting things about you.



What a fun way to get to know each other better, right?

Gah. I dunno. How about Squeal? Yeah, that'll do

What turns you on creatively?
Movies. Other books. Dreams.

Work. Being sleepy

Fuck. Though, as Seth Green pointed out on Inside the Actor's Studio (in reference to Tom Hank's interview on Inside the Actor's Studio) Horse-Shit is quite awesome.

What sound or noise do you love?
I do enjoy the sound of snow falling. You have to be reaaaaal quiet to hear it. Also the hooting owl in my backyard gets a smile out of me every time

What sound or noise do you hate?
When you scrape the ice off of windows with your fingernails. Gah, I just threw up in my mouth a bit

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Is this being realistic? Cuz if it isn't, then a super hero. Fact.
If it's serial, then a teacher.

What profession would you not like to do?
I really have no desire to be an actress.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

In Which I Have A Question

How many of you use Google Alerts to search for your name (or book, if you have a book published you lucky dog you)?

And by Google Alerts, I mean the web service that's supposed to search the interwebs for whatever key word you choose (often a name) and email you links anytime someone mentions you.

I set one up for myself a few weeks ago, mostly to keep track if anyone mentions me in a blog post, I want to make sure I see it and am able to thank them. When you read a lot of blogs, sometimes it's hard to keep track of all of them.

I ask this, because my Google Alert is only like 25% successful.

For example:

On some days it emails me links to blogs that I commented on. Which makes sense. But it only sends like one or two, even though I comment on closer to 40 blogs a day. Why doesn't it send me the other 38 links that I commented on?

Twice now I was mentioned on two other blogs, for unrelated things. The exact reason I set up the Alert in the first place. In both these instances, Google Alerts didn't pick up on these posts.


Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else use Google Alerts successfully? Or should I be using another Alert service?



P.S. Happy Valentines Day! This is the day, 30 years ago, Twin and I were allowed to come home from the hospital after being born. Good times.

Sad news from me, though, this week. I went to the vet on Monday and they confirmed something Mommy and Anne suspected.

I...have a broken tooth.

Sigh. It's going to have to come out, which isn't as easy for dogs as it is for people. So please wish me luck! (stoopid toofers)

In Which I Turn A Year Older

Well today at 4:32 PM I will turn a year older. At 4:34 PM Twin will turn a year older.

Yep, we've reached 30.

Good times!

We had the last few days off from work and played a lot of racquetball, ate at delicious restaurants (probably too much) and played a lot of Halo: Reach.

We also got new tattoos!

We decided to get nerdy twin ones, cuz we're nerds like that.

It was actually really hard to pick which one to read next. I can't wait to get through them all.
