In Which I Make A Decision

So, after a week or so of contemplation (and a lot of crazy amounts of work at the day job which doesn't look like it will be slowing at all for the rest of the month) I think I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to participate in Authoress's Baker's Dozen auction. I just don't have time to get my MS where I want it to be.

I mean, what if I was selected as one of the people in the auction, and an agent requested a full or something and my MS just wasn't up to snuff? That would be a wasted opportunity. I'd rather just take my time and make sure the MS is as good as I can make it and just query normally. Cuz I like querying anyway, and there's no reason to rush things.

I thought briefly about entering Glimpse. But a few of the agents on the list of participants have already seen my query or the MS or still have the MS, so it would kind of stink if I took up a spot for only a few agents when I could just query them. Also, I haven't yet made the change to Glimpse that I want either.

This also means I can let Break Free sit a bit before I start on line edits. It also means I can give NaNo much more of my attention, since I haven't yet started my outline or query (or really even come up with a stable plot)

The new NaNo website is supposed to roll out today. I'm excited to check it out.

How about you? Are you doing NaNo this year?

Nah. No. Nano. Too busy!

Okay, so if NOT on the contest... maybe ABNA?

And YES, on NaNoWriMo, but I may be a rebel. I have a book I really want to write, but also a book I have to write... It will depend how much I get done on the 'have to' this month (I really want to write both books by the end of December).

Good for you for thinking clearly about your goals. Remind me next time I have a crisis to mail you and you can talk me down. You're so analytical.

No NaNo for me. I always say I'm going to try it, but I hate the pressure. I mean, I will be writing, but I can't get to goals every day. I'm not that disciplined.

Sounds like you made the right choice. Then again, I'm of the mindset that any decision that you make is right for you at the time you make it; hindsight is always 20/20.

Nano? Hells no! There aren't enough hours in the day as it is; the last thing I need is another looming deadline. :)

I'm actually considering NaNO this year - it will be my first.

You made a tough decision, but probably a good one. It's better to wait until your happy with it.

You made the right choice, Falen. Writing is WAY more important. =P

I've never done NaNo...and I probably *wince* never will. My stories usually need more than 50,000 words, but I should try to write that much in month. Okay, maybe I'll do NaNo someday.

Ohhh! Thanks for the reminder about the new NaNo website today! I'll have to run over to check it out as well.

And you bet I'm doing it this year. I'm absolutely pressure prompted and need the 30 day/50K word deadline to get my butt in the chair. Without that, I can (and have) spend months simply "thinking" and not really doing.

There's always next year, Falen :)

As for NaNo, I'm still undecided. Maybe if I get the current WIP finished before then. Hmm.

perhaps I should do NaNo this year, but I'm def. not doing the baker's dozen thing. Although I highly recommend MSFV as a resource~ :o) <3

I'm seriously torn about NaNo this year. I didn't manage to finish last year, so I'd like to give it a shot (meaning that all other blogging/reading responsibilities would go). However, could I use that time catching up with other things (there's a Return of the King group read I'd like to do). So many things, and not enough time!

Out of curiosity, do you really think the agent expects the manuscript immediately?

I ask because in my experience I've asked for extensions (to editors) and they were thrilled for the extra time.

I did NaNo last year, which is when I wrote the sequel to my book. But I don't have any ideas for a third story, so probably not this year.

Can't wait for NaNo. Can't. Wait.

I'm hoping to do NaNo but depends on editing schedule with publishers. I'm getting my outline ready.

It sounds like you've made the right decision for you. I've set myself a target to submit something for next year, if it runs.

I won't be doing Nano, but I will try and write 50k in November. I like challenges :-)

I don't think I'll ever have time for NaNo, but it sounds like you made the right decision.

it sounds as though you made a super wise and selfless decision! way to be!

So you decided to do NaNo then? Is it one of the ideas you've discussed with us before?

I'm on the fence on NaNo. I've got a story in the back of my mind that wants to be written but I also need to finish polishing and start querying my current one. Decisions, decisions.

First, that picture of the clock is so captivating that I can't take my eyes off it. I think it's great that you are assessing yourself and your work so well. No sense in rushing and then not feeling like it's quality work. Write on!

Aw, boo on the Bloggeress thing! We've just been swamped this year haven't we?

I think I'm going to do NaNo...I think. I'll give you my final decision on Monday. LOL.

I'm a new follower and I'll be doing NaNo this year. I've done it every year since 2003 and I managed to complete it every year except last year. Babies take up way too much time! I hope my son naps next month so I can have time to write.
