In Which I Did Some Shopping

Look what I bought!

Yes yes, I know I'm pretty broke. But I can be spontaneous when shopping.

Why is it in the grass you ask? Because the lighting is shitty in our house and the sun is outside.

Isn't my handwriting so super? I know, you're jealous (this is why I don't handwrite anything. Well that and I'm sane...)

Also, don't look too closely at the pink star in the lower right hand corner.

I SAID DON'T LOOK!!

Yay! A Whiteboard!
While line editing, it has become clear to me that my scene re-arrangement is not done. Oh not at all.

And I don't want to have to move all my post it notes around again now that they've found homes in the notebook. So the easiest solution was to buy a whiteboard. Then I can write a list of scenes and draw arrows and junk to demonstrate where I want to move them. If it doesn't work, I can just erase it and start over.

I'm a super visual person and can't do it just on the word document. I need to see it.

What about you?
Do you have a fancy whiteboard? Do you even need one?

Love your new purchase - and I use one for the same reason you mentioned. I like to see a visual infront of me when writing. I draw out plot points, scenes and important notes all over mine. It's a good reference when writing and things can be changed with the swipe of a cloth.

Color me JEA-LOUS! How come you're so cool that you buy everything I want. I want to write with colored markers too! I just got a corkboard at a yard sale but now I want a white board!!!!

I've never thought about it but now I think I do!

I have a corkboard and a whiteboard. The corkboard holds all my login info for my bills, and the whiteboard has a bunch of pictures of my animals and some motivations magnets....

However, I'm a fiend in the sketchbooks. I like to plot in sketchbooks; something about the heavier paper weight, I guess.

No white board for me; I prefer to keep track of all that stuff in my head, thus contributing to my growing insanity.

I have a whiteboard here in my office at work, but I can't really use it for my writing. My writing space at home isn't really conducive to a white board, but as much as I use one at work, I could definitely make use of it for my writing!!

Super cool! I love anything and everything that has to do with office supplies. I could spend millions of $ at stores like Staples and Office Max. So it's a good thing I don't have millions, lol!

OMG! I just bought two over at the boutique!! They were on sale!!!! I'm so excited to use them. For now I just write mean notes to Sam or put his name on the board and checkmarks behind it for when he does/says something bad. Muhaha! So many uses...

Congratulations on your white board! I have never owned one, except the mini-one we glued on the fridge, to write shopping lists and such. We stopped using it when we realized it was really annoying having to bring the fridge along every time we went shopping. It was also really annoying when we realized that the white board pen only partially washed off from the fridge. Did I mention we didn't OWN the fridge? Yeah.. The landlord was SO pleased...

Great idea! Ironically, even though I am a visual person, I prefer to do my notes in a Word doc. Go figure.

OMG! I JUST bought one (and a pack of colored dry erase markers) YESTERDAY!!! I swears! I did so, because I am drowning in my revisions and need a BIG visual for timelines and plotlines. I bought mine at Staples. I haven't hung it up/used it yet...but plan to later today.

Let's email each other pictures of it in use, K?

*sneaking back out now* (I'm supposed to be unplugged. I'm trying. It's hard.)

Love,
Lola

Jaydee - YES! Exactly! i'm super excited about it

Piedmont - well color me jealous about your corkboard! if i had more wall space, i'd get one of those too

Alexandra - haha! Spreading the writing consumerism, one reader at a time!

Summer - ooh sketchbooks are fun to have just like writing journals. So. Pretty.

Teebore - of course mr "i've written every single word, including prepositions, in my head before i EVER write it down on paper"

DL - to be fair, i have no where to hang it since the office is two walls of windows. BUT i figure i would just cart it around with me when i need it

Laura - oh me too! I tried not to look at all the pens and stuff while i was searching for the whiteboards

Hannah - HAH! i also got a little one to hang on the fridge for food info (you know, the healthy eating thing)

Cruella - have you tried a mr clean magic eraser? I swear, those things can clean ANYTHING

Maria - i thought i'd be ok with that as well. But it turns out i was lying to myself

Lola - holy shit! We're like whiteboard twins. MINDFREAK!

Jude - yes. Yes it's definately an investment and not frivolous spending... *darts eyes around*

Happy purchase to you. And I did look, you say that is a star? Okay.
I avoid anything that makes dust. In this case is would be ink dust from erasing.

You'll have to take a picture of the whiteboard full of scenes and arrows - and then ask us if we understand ANY of it!

Hart Johnson said...

*giggles* I get excited about such things too, though because I hand write my books, I must be INsane. *snicker*

Hope it works for you!!!

I have a white board or at least did in college. Not sure where it is now. I just might have to unearth it now....

Sarah Ahiers said...

Holly - it most definitely IS a star...

Alex - HA! That is a genius idea

Hart - i'm telling you. Handwriting is only for the clinically insane

Nicole - is it a fancy one?

Lynda R Young as Elle Cardy said...

This is a great suggestion! I also have trouble doing everything on Word, which is why I often hand write (I know, I'm crazy).

I love that you labeled it for us. I also love that pink star.

I'm a bit of a sucker when it comes to whiteboards. My favourite is the whiteboard/corkboard combo, I find it super efficient at organising my thoughts :D

I like the pink star, it's got character :D

Sarah Ahiers said...

Lynda - awww. The pink star thanks you for the love

Nicole - oooh! Sparkly pens!

Kelly - yeah i felt the label was required. Also, it let me use the colored markers

Jamie - i'm a sucker for any sort of office supplies

Matthew MacNish said...

I sort of tried to do something similar using an excel spreadsheet, but I wasn't organized enough.

KodasTotems said...

I want to see your whiteboard when it's heavy with your organizational progress. (Although the little mutilated stars are nice too...) I am so fascinated by how your mind works, so precise and FUNCTIONAL! You never cease to impress me.

Sarah Ahiers said...

Matthew - oooh, i do love some excel. But then i'd have to print it off

Koda's - the precision needs to be in place to fight my urge to be lazy. so so lazy

I love that funky star... I mean! Of course I didn't look in the lower right hand corner *cough cough*

I have a strange collection of whiteboards that I hide in various parts of the room. I think I have four now. Maybe five. I keep telling myself they will prove useful one day.
