Top 10 TV Show Blogfest

So I forgot all about this, but now I am signed up on the linky and an official participant.

Here are my top ten TV shows, in no particular order.

1. Gargoyles.

I loved this show growing up. To this day, i still want to be a gargoyle. Also, like half the cast of TNG did voice-overs on this show. There were so many awesome Shakespeare references in this show. EPIC!
However it really tanked once it became "The Goliath Chronicles"

2. Lost

How can you not be hooked on this show after those first 7 minutes of the pilot? You can't. I loved this show. Straight up. From beginning to end. I still miss it (well, mostly the characters). And that's all i have to say about that.

3. Naruto/Naruto Shippuden.

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden are awesome. Straight up. When i watch it, i want to be a ninja. Naruto follows the MC, Naruto, for a few years, then Naruto Shippuden picks up the narrative when the characters are a few years older. It's hilarious and heart wrenching and full of awesome characters.

4. Avatar

Spoiler Alert for anyone currently watching the show and not yet on book 3...

No, not that crap the effing M Night Shymalan put out (he's dead to me, now). The animated show. Have you watched this? If not, do so RIGHT NOW. for reals. So much awesomeness. The show is a perfect mesh of action, comedy and drama. A Comactma if you will.
Watch it now.

5. Buffy

I mean, how many shows do you watch that can pull off a musical? If it's not a show by Joss Whedon, chances are it can't. One of the best things about Buffy is she was the exact same age as me when it was on the air. So that was pretty awesome since we went to college at the same time and junk.

6. Stargate

This show solidified my deep deep love for Michael Shanks. Also, the show rocks. I really enjoyed the original movie, so extrapolate on that and keep it entertaining and it's a win in my book. Season 8 is still our favorite. Also are you watching Stargate Universe? (it's had 2 Michael Shanks cameos) You should be (Hannah...)

7. Firefly

Seriously, has anyone not watched this show yet? If so, SHAME! SHAME ON YOU! In my opinion, this is Joss Whedon's best show. There's no telling how awesome it could have been if it hadn't been cancelled. All signs (including the movie) point to Super Ultra Mega Awesome

8. Ronin Warriors

Ahh, old school anime. Ronin Warriors has a special place in my heart for two reasons:
1. It was, more or less, our gateway into Anime. After this show we dove headfirst into anime and have been faithful watchers for over sixteen years.
2. It was my gateway into becoming a writer. Myself and other high school friends wrote fanfiction for Ronin Warriors and that then changed into writing my own stories. Good times

9. Venture Brothers

Love love love the Venture Brothers. So hilarious. So full of comedic violence. I can't even really describe it. Did you like Johnny Quest growing up? You may like the Venture Brothers - not that it's anything like Johnny Quest, just that Johnny Quest has frequent Cameos. Yeah, he's a druggie, but that's what happens to child boy adventurers when they grow up

10. X-Men

Ahh awesome 90's x-men. This show was so awesome. So awesome. It certainly solidified my love of the X-Men, helped along by copious comic reading as well. We used to run home after school so we wouldn't miss it. We still quote it occasionally, since it had fun lines like "Someone's getting too big for her britches".

Sigh. I've said so much about my sadness/anger over Firefly's demise that I just can't go on until I watch the entire series AGAIN.

And yay for LOST! It will probably remain on my Top 10 forever. I don't care how many amazing shows come out in the next 40 years. LOST will always be a favorite.

I've been surprised how few lists LOST has appeared on. AVATAR totally deserves to be included. It was an excellent short series.

Alex - yeah just seeing everyone else's list made me want to finish mine

Budd - Avatar does indeed totally rock. so totally

Emily - such a classic.

BStearns - So many great disney cartoons growing up

Hannah - to be fair, we haven't watched gargoyles in years. But we watch some avatar pretty much every week

Hart - yeah i was sad i had to leave off futurama

Clarissa - ooh you should totally watch it now that it's done so you don't have to wait to get through it

Welcome - some of the videos were better than others. And some were just crazy long, but they were the best choices

Karen - oh me too. I loved it to through the very end

DL - yeah i'm surprised too. I wonder if it's just because less people watched it than i realize, or if people are mad about the ending

Jen - i like videos. Also including them means i don't have to write as much

Jennie - what was wrong with him? Not only was it a terrible interpretation of the show, it was just a terrible movie.

Michelle - Do It! You will not regret it. Well you'll have the same regrets as the rest of us that it's cancelled, but you won't regret watching it

Lola - good times. They just don't make tv like that anymore

Ashley - we just rely on our DVR to tape everything we want to watch

Jamie - YEAH he was! None of the other x-men cartoons have done Gambit justice

Matthew - we had a hard time deciding which Naruto video to use
cuz it's so awesome

Aspiring - yes i've heard that as well, that it will follow the next avatar, a girl who would be a water bender i guess if i'm right on my avatar cycle

M. Bail said...

Stargate is on my list, too. I'm a devoted fan!

Venture Bros is hilarious! and Buffy is just awesome!

Go Team Venture!! *V*

I love that show. We watch it several times a week while we're laying in bed, getting ready to go to sleep.

I'll even admit this: I actually dreamed a couple nights ago that I'd been added to the Venture family's team, and I was a cartoon assassin bodyguard, just like Brock. And Brock was my lover-boy. I can't believe I just admitted that.

But it was awesome.

I'm just starting to watch Gargoyles with Dr. Bitz. He loves it too.

Lost ended up copping out on its own narrative too much for me to rank it as high as you did, but I'd still consider one of my 10 favorite shows for the experience, the characters, and what might have been.

Seriously, I would rather watch that Avatar trailer 45 times in a row than watch M. Night Crapaman's movie again. Notice how you could see what people were doing in that trailer? And that they were actually doing stuff?

Hot damn, that show is awesome (incidentally, I hadn't watched that trailer since finishing the show, and I just realized how much stuff from that dragon episode they used in it).

Buffy, Stargate, Firefly, Venture Bros., ditto.

Oh, 90s X-Men cartoon. So awesome and so crappy at the same time. I love that you put this on your list.

Remember how Storm spouted off a damn Shakespearean soliloquy every time she used her powers? Shut up, Storm.

I have no comment on your anime selections, as I have not seen them and anime really isn't my thing (though I thoroughly enjoyed Now and Then, Here and There and Trigun (especially the second half when it got less goofy) when I watched them.

Sarah Ahiers said...

M. Bail - if i had my way, everyone would watch avatar

Lynda - they are definitely full of win

Kelly - oh we love Venture Brothers so much

Summer - that sounds like a kick ass dream. And i have also havd venture brothers dreams and they have always been awesome. Like the show

Teebore - i just tried to pick shows that really took up a big portion of my life, so Lost for sure had to be included. As did X-Men.
I would say about 60% of really good anime starts out goofy, which can make it hard to use to convert non-anime watchers. I still think you would really enjoy DeathNote, which is not goofy at all and maybe fullmetal alchemist, which has occasionally goofy moments, but overall is very serious and often dark.

Also i pretty much can't stand storm, and to a lesser extent rogue, in that show. Also, why is almost everyone in every day clothing at the mall except Gambit. WTF?

Austin Gorton said...

Because gambit is so cool his clothing works as both regular clothes AND a superhero costume!

I love Stargate, though I haven't watched Stargate Universe yet. It looks dumb, but that's unfair of me to say since I haven't actually watched any eps because we have like, five channels including the Korean channel and two Spanish channels.

And Firefly! And Buffy! I can't wait to watch that episode... *sighs happily*

P.S. Oh! If you have a chance you might be interested to check out something I posted over at my blog. ;)

I feel like I've been living under a rock. I'm only familiar with Buffy.

Sarah Ahiers said...

Teebore - that is so so true

Achinghope - SGU is completely different than the other series. Much more serious and dark. And FULL OF WIN

Medeia - yes, but Buffy is a pretty important one, so you get props for that
