In Which I Didn't Get Much Done

So last week I had a plan. I was going to hit the ground running and get my synopsis done. Or at least started.

Then Monday rolled around and all my best laid plans went to hell. My day job was cray-cray the whole week, so I pretty much got nothing done at all.

I wish my job was like this...

Also, I barely found time to read blogs (which is why my commenting was more infrequent last week).

But here we are, another Monday, and my plans this week are the same as last week. Get My Synopsis Written!

Since, as we can see all see, it's April, and my goal for this month is to begin to query (Excitement! Fear

And since I'm a person that doesn't like to start things half cocked, it's not an option to me to start querying without a synopsis, even to agents that don't need one.
Because I know if I don't write one before I start to query, my laziness will kick in and I'll probably never write one and therefore lose the opportunity to query those agents who request one.
It's just the way I am.

So cross your fingers for me this week. Synopsis - here I come!

The nice thing about being a writer is you can make 'someone's' job like this.

Loved the picture!

And how long have you been discussing this synopsis, woman? I thought you would've had it finished by now. :)

Good luck!

You can do eet!

But really, synopses probably blow. I haven't tried to write one yet.

that guy just lost an eye to that paintball hit to the face

and you forgot your parenthesis after "Excitement! Fear"
now the left one is hanging out there unfinished and the universe is out of alignement

Less Sims Medeival, more synopsis! DO IT

Good luck - I hope the work week treats you better this time around.

Good luck with the synopsis! I don't know if you've seen this before or not, but here's the best advice I've come across for writing one: http://magicalwords.net/stuart-jaffe/publishing-the-synopsis/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MagicalWords+%28Magical+Words%29

Maria - i know, right? Stoopid work. Interferring with my zazzed up mood

Summer - i'm sure once i do it, i'll feel stupid because it was easy or something. At least, i hope that's how it turns out

Anne - dammit. Effing blogger has been a bitch with post formatting lately, so i probably accidentally erased it when trying to get some paragraph breaks in there.

Jaydee - well, so far today is not looking good...

Lockwood - ooh thanks! I'll check it out!

Aspiring - aww thanks! No worries, i'll probably just run it past my writing group

Crossing my fingers for you! How about rubber band shooters instead of paintball guns for work? At least they'd leave less evidence of warfare. :)

I'm writing one, too! Good luck. (Also, coincidentally, I'm using the same article that A Lockwood linked to as the basis for my synopsis.)

ARGH! I HATE it when work is crazy, and totally sympathize because mine seems to be going that way, too. And I think you are smart to have the synopsis ready before starting--someone will request one from the query and that is NOT the kind of thing you want to write on the fly. Good luck!

Good luck, good luck! I'm sure you can get your synopsis done.

Go, go, go. We are your cheer squad this week.

Sarah Ahiers said...

Janel - thanks! Though rubber bands can hurt just as much, imop

Suzi - i'm excited to check it out - and good luck to you!

Hart - work is just sucky. And then i feel stupid because i have to actually do something for it. Still, it makes me cranky

Alex - thanks!

Talli - i'm crossing my fingers

Lola - i'll kick it right in the gonads! (*snicker*)

Holly - thanks!

No more delays. Let's get that synopsis firing on all synapses!

Ugh, that was bad. Forget I said anything, except: Good luck!

I've written a synopsis for each of my books, yet they each suck respectively. Good luck with yours!

Glad I found your blog.

hahahah, I'm laughing at Nate's comment. What a character!

Also, I love synopses!! You'll be able to crack one out in no time!

Best of luck with the synopsis and the query. I don't like to go into anything half cocked neither (as my favourite energy drink says on the can, "No Half Measures" :P).

Lindsay said...

You can do it *fist pump*

Sarah Ahiers said...

Nate - too late! It can never be forgotten...

Wanton - see, this is what worries me...

Hannah - what does that mean? You love synopses? How so?

Jamie - thanks! And yeah, half cocked just leads to me being lazier

Lindsay - *high five*!

This is slightly off topic but I somehow managed not to notice until today the cover for Glimpse of Another Shore. Fantastic!

Sarah Ahiers said...

Linda - thanks! It's just the cover i won for NaNo's 30 covers in 30 days, but i'm quite fond of it

My work is crazy. We have facilities and suppliers in Japan, and yesterday we announced we were buying another company. My job will inject me directly into all these actions.

Busy!

But I'm making time, somehow, manufacturing seconds and minutes from right out of The Great Black Nothing.

Good luck.

The synopsis part of writing a book is always a pain for me, but once it's done, all's good. Best of luck on the exciting querying process. I wish I was there with you!

Long time since I've visited Sarah. Caught you commenting somewhere. Not doing the A - Z?

They say writing your synpsis is the hardest part of writing. I wrote one for a contest and got it pulled to shreds. There seems to be so many different views on the correct way to write it. All the best to you.

Roxy - well i've written the first chunk, now i've just got a few more to go...

L'Aussie - yeah, no on the a-z for me. Just way too much going on this month

Kelly and Heather - thanks!!
