In Which I Went Shopping

Hi all, sorry about yesterday's post, The link for the bread recipe was included, but I realized it was kind of hidden between the pictures.

So here's the link to the recipe again, for anyone who wanted it: Cinnamon Sugar Pull-Apart Bread.

Here's what mine ended up looking like. And I'm not going to lie. It was delicious.

So, last week I mentioned shopping therapy at the RenFest. I told myself I wasn't going to buy anything this year because, as mentioned, I am pretty broke (AND Doggy Tula has come down with a serious itching problem over the last few weeeks. She will be getting a second vet visit later this week. Sigh).

Anyway, so they we were, hanging out at Renfest, studiously NOT thinking about how Twin's car was stolen and how someone was in our house while we were sleeping, and THERE IT WAS...

Now, I know I've mentioned before how I'm jealous of Twin's ability to look good in hats. It doesn't come as easy for me. In fact, my steampunk writing hat in my blog pic is really the first awesome hat I've ever owned.

Until. I found. THIS!!!

That's right! A mothereffing steampunk Bowler/Derby Hat! Holy hell guys. I wanted it IMMEDIATELY.

So I bought it.

For reals. I would've totally regretted not getting it.

So, now I have another steampunk hat. This one, though, will be a steampunk EDITING/REVISION hat. I think I may change my blog picture to match the hat of whatever I'm doing at the time. So, for example, since I'm revising Break Free right now, I'll be changing the above picture to match.

So, there you have it. The Siren call of the steampunkery sucks me in again. Man, I would buy so much cool stuff if I had a lot of money.

How about you? Bought anything frivilous necessary lately?

That is one fearsome hat. Don't tell my brother if you run into him but I'm secretly jealous of his hat-wearing skills.

Dan - all right, i'll keep that in mind in case i run across him

Yes! LOVE IT! I'm a huge fan of hats. Ask any writer who has been at a con with me. lol. Mainly I like to hide under them, but they also give me secret creative power or something. So yes, I agree, I'd buy tons of cool stuff if I had money--especially lots more cool hats.

LOVE the hat!! I used to be a hat wearer, have given it up because well, it's not Halloween every day.

And that bread looks so awesome, I am definately going to make it.

I went to Sam's Club and spent over a hundred bucks, so yeah... though most of it *was* necessary stuff, like cat litter and laundry detergent. But I also bought a 12 pack of steno pads! I like taking notes on steno pads. :)
Awesome hat!

I love hats, but I don't have a head for them either.

Bowler hats are so sexy too. You really scored.

Sweet hat!

I wish I looked better in hats than I do. Or that I didn't have such a huge noggin so they fit better.

Seriously, I was born in the wrong time. I need to live in an era where men wore vests and hats everywhere and carried umbrellas or canes...

First, I am a FIRM believer in retail therapy.

Also, the only kind of buyer's remorse I ever feel is NON-buyer's remorse: the thing I didn't buy and wish I had bought. And, you know I go back to buy said item, because it festered that I didn't get it...and of course, it's GONE. No longer avail in my size or color or at all.

Yeah, so my point is, I never regret what I buy, only the thing I didn't buy that I knew I should have.

I love both hats on you! And you deserve a new hat.

(I look awful in hats. *sigh* And I look like crap in sunglasses too. *double sigh* What makes other people look uber cool makes me look even fuglier. *triple sigh*)

Hugs,
Lola

Karen - yay for super creative hat powers!

Anne - you totally should. It was a bit time consuming, but not difficult at all

Summer - oh man, i walked past the school supplies at the grocery store last week and almost went crazy. But i was good and i didn't

Maria - i love bowler hats. They definitely need to be more popular

Teebore - seriously, i need to live in that time too, just so i can appreciate the men in vests and hats with canes. MMMMM

Lola - how...how do you look crap in sunglasses? I don't know if i believe that. Is it possible you just haven't found the right pair?

I like the hat, Sarah! Even better than the first one. You one classy steampunk lady.

Hmmm. My idea of a hat is my trusty Boston Red Sox baseball cap. Probably not a good fashion statement.

Sarah Ahiers said...

Alex - hah! Thanks. The first one is nice because it's leather, but i do love me some bowlers. The good thing is the googles will go with either

LD - hey, you do whatever makes you happy. If it's a redsox cap, then it's a redsox cap

Love the hat!! I would wear them if my job allowed. I bought this kick ass dress I saw at a consignment store with a high neck and a red dragon curling up the side in beads and embroidery. I will never wear it anywhere, because I have nowhere to wear a dragon dress but it was on sale and I had to have it. I will wear it on Sunday nights to watch True Blood, I guess.

oooooh! i LOVE hats! i especially love knitted caps and fishing hats and hats that look like they once belonged to fidel castro. :P my kids are always wearing hats! cowboy hats, baseball caps, ski hats, fireman hats... it doesn't matter! if it fits on their head, they're trying to sneak into school with it on. :) i actually think i look better with a hat on. i'm not a fan of my eyebrows. :)

Sarah Ahiers said...

Julie - that dress sounds AMAZING! And wearing it while watching true blood sounds like the perfect time for a dragon dress

Vic - aww, i bet you have cute eyebrows! I have a weird shaped head and a bit of a longer face (well, compared to twin) so hats don't typically work for me

Ohhh! J'adore the hat! Looks great!

Recently, I've embraced retail therapy. A 10-wk Loft writing class, a 2nd half marathon (wha? I'm paying $70 for the "honor" of running?!), and the piece de resistance... I'm planning a trip to Ireland. Solo woman traveler with a trusty pen and notebook against the wild west coast of Erin. Only snag is it will be over Nano, but I apparently like a good challenge.

And PLEASE tell me you ate the whole loaf because I would have...

That hat. I want!
My frivolous purchases tend to be on Lego architecture models, hehe. I'm a big kid at heart.
I'd love to have an official writing hat, but I'm not a hat person. I think my head is too big to look good in a hat :(

Sarah Ahiers said...

TL Conway - ireland?! That is awesome! Are you still going to participate in Nano while you're travelling?

Jamie - oh man, legos are so cool nowadays. But still expensive. Every time we walk past the legoland in the mall of america, i totally want to buy some

Nate Wilson said...

Does ice cream count as frivolous? Because that's all I've got. The rest of my money has gone toward the new windows, the new kitchen, and the new baby.

But I will buy that steampunk derby off you for a pretty penny. (Before you say no, know that the penny is really pretty.)

Yeah, I was doing pretty well at saving. Then we went to the grocery store hungry. Not a good idea. Also, went out to eat a couple times...after the grocery store trip. And another trip to Ikea. Sigh.

Love the new hat!! I wish I looked good in hats. Alas, I do not. Doesn't always stop me from wearing them though.
