IWSG

First Wednesday of the month, which means it's time for Insecure Writer's Support Group.
(also, can you believe it's already October??)

I'm feeling pretty good right now. Just in a bit of a holding pattern, waiting to see if I need more revisions or if I'm ready to send All That Remains out into the query world.

I have a conference in two weeks, and I'll be meeting with an agent or editor to go over the first five pages, so I'm for sure not querying before then. After the conference, though, probably.

I'm a bit nervous, actually. Which is strange for me. Usually I'm just like "Pshaa, send it out into the world!" And I definitely have that attitude too, (I'm getting excited to query, you know? Zazzing up my query list didn't help) but also I'm like "but if I don't send it out, then I don't have to worry about it".

Which is stupid. Because what's the point of spending all this time working hard on it if it's not going out? No point. And I know a lot of my worry will fade once I send it out and get some requests. Then it will be exciting (and nerve-wracking, too. But a different kind of nerves).

What about you? Have you been sending out your work?

Well said! Why work so hard on it if you're not going to send it out? Why work on anything that long if you're not going to follow through to the end?

That's a great idea to wait until after the conference to send things out. It's only 2 weeks. If it were 2 months, I'd be kicking your butt to get sending! :)

I sent something out once. Never heard back. Not even a rejection letter. So...that's where I'm coming from.

I've got to the point with the current one where I'm not sending it out. I received an acceptance on it, then realised that it was because I'd reached the stage of querying presses so small I could do just as good a job myself.

I guess you could say that. Published two books this week! LOL :-)

You know, I went through all of that when I started querying my current query bait. I was so crazed about it. I'd queried before, but my current novel cost me something to send out into the world, so I get how you're feeling right now.

First: Good luck. Second: Yay Query land! (and you could enter the MSFV SA October for some first page feedback).

I haven't been sending out my work, but I did join a writer's group.

I think it's so much scarier sitting face to face with someone who's going to judge you. I went through SO many auditions as a teen, and every single one was nerve wracking, no matter how well I'd prepared or how sure I was of a spot. I think sitting in front of a LIVE agent is pretty much the same thing. Best of luck!

I had stuff to say, but then I saw the pics of Yvie and Gummy Sue and went all 'awwww'. :)

Hey Falen,
I've always had that fear of sending my work out there (whether it be querying or for a contest etc.). It just freaks me out lol. Also, I'm still out on sub with my ms, hoping for great things. So that's where I'm at right now.

I hope your meetings at the conference go well, and good luck for when you do start submitting your query. I'll cross my fingers for you :).
