I know, I know, I was so excited to get started and I'm already behind? But I have some pretty good reasons as to why.
I'm still not done with reading the manuscript. I'm about half way there. It's one thing to read a mass market paperback. That is easy to carry around. But lugging around 300 pages of printer paper is not as easy, even if I've broken it up into four parts.
Also, Sundays are typically my day to do writerly things, but this last weekend we hit the Home and Garden Show. After hours of walking I came away with a new pillow, a garden gopher, a new set of earrings and a cute little owl statue.
my earrings
Twin's earrings
I've wanted an owl like this since I saw a similar one on Things I Yell At You
I was also reading a book on editing, which I hoped would get me in the mood. But the book was OK, and 98% of the stuff they suggested you do to edit your fiction novel was stuff that I already knew to do. So, meh.
So these are the foremost reasons as to why I'm behind on my revision process. Still, no rush I guess.
Anyone else behind on their goals?
Also, Al from Publish or Perish awarded me The Sunshine Award, which was awfully nice of him.
I'll be passing this on to Sonshine Thoughts (because it's fitting, right?)
And AchingHope (who is hilarious)

Get to work!
Also, how long do you think the revision process will take?
I find your revision/editing process interesting because once I let the ms. rest, when I go back to it, I start at the beginning, not bothering to read it again because I've already read it 5,000 times. If you don't mind my asking, what are you looking for through the read?
Wow! I love those earings....they remind me a little of the elfin jewerly in LOTR! and that owl is so cute! Thanks for sharing and I'm glad you had a good time.
Anne - i AM getting to work... i did a lot of work yesterday and plan to do more today.
Also, i have no idea..
Piedmont - i just do a read through to refamiliarize myself with what i wrote. Since for my drafting process on this one, i pretty much didn't read any of it while i was writing it. If that makes sense. I might make some notes on big things i need to change
Aubrie - we spent like 15 mintues at that jewelry booth because there was so much awesomeness...
Okay, now I want one of those owls too.
Oh, and am I behind on my goals? Sister, I'm about seven years behind on my goals. Being behind on my goals is my constant state of existence.
Incidentally, I also read through my manuscript once before hardcore editing too, for the same reasons you do. Though even then, I keep a pen handy because I can't not mark the spelling, grammatical and typo errors I find.
I'm with Teebore, gimme one of those owls!!
And although the H&G show is still dorky, I want all of the things you bought there. What's a garden gopher? sounds dirty.
@Teebore- "Oh, and am I behind on my goals? Sister, I'm about seven years behind on my goals. Being behind on my goals is my constant state of existence."
LOL! That made my day.
As far as me being behind, I missed only one day of writing this week, I've maintained my 500 words per day. But if I make it up, do you think I should take down my 500 word banner?? Hmmm.
@Anne- gimme earring!!
I forgot to subscribe to follow-up comments...pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
That owl is too cute for words! :-)
Congrats on the sunshine award!
Yay! You have an Owl Baby too! I am telling you, it is an addiction. I am going to be Grandma Creepy with my Owl House in about 20 years. Ha, I can't wait!
I totally feel you on falling behind. But you have very good reasons, so don't feel bad! It's okay to live and read and breathe. :)
Not behind so much as I need to set a new writing goal.
Teebore - yeah i get a little sick feeling in my stomach when i think about how long i was stuck on the previous WIP vs how quickly i finished Foxfire
Palindrome - a garden gopher is a metal stick you attach to your drill and it mixes up all the soil in your garden.
Palindrome - Jedi Business *uses jedi hand wave to distract readers*
Shannon - thanks! I needed help to pick out which one i wanted
Joan - well, in the list of cool things to be, creepy owl lady is a step up from creepy cat lady
Elana - indeed. and i think i might be close to getting back on track so that's good
Alex - do it! Start a new novel!
congrats on the Sunshine award, Falen :)
Very nice earrings and a really cool owl. :) As for being behind? It's my natural state. I'm behind from the moment I start something.
Congrats on the award! And yeah, we're sort of meandering our way through our first draft. It's actually sort of nice though.
Whee! thanks! I will pass it on...
Also, I accidentally posted this on Palindrome's blog *blush*
But I just wanted to say that I LOVED your short story "Strays" and it keeps popping into my head. So just wanted to let you know :D
Also, love the owl! I'm gonna have to go get me one of them.
Dezmond - Thanks!
sarahjayne - but if that's your natural state, then wouldn't that technically mean you're on schedule??!
L&L - yeah there definately is a time and place for meandering
Sonshine - Thanks! and your totes welcome on the award. We should all get owls and we'll have like a little blog army with owls watching us
Where do you guys find these super cute owls *is jealous*
I am also waaaay behind on my goals. I blame it on February, for being such a short month (it didn't help that someone vacuumed up one of the weeks when I wasn't looking.)
And thanks for the award! :D It makes me feel so special, which I feel like I'm saying all the time, but for reals, blog friends are the coolest things ever. Huzzah!
Aching - i happened to find my owl at a random stand at the home and garden show. i almost missed them until Twin was like "LOOK!" and then i squeed.
I wish i could blame Feb for the behindness, but i wasn't even supposed to start editing until march, so...
