In Which Sometimes I Hate Good Books

So I'm busy right now.

Like super, super, holy crap busy. SO much work to get done. But I am getting it done which is awesome and makes me feel all accomplished like a mother-effing adult or something.

So while I'm doing all this work (edits, MFA writing and papers) I'm also still reading. Because of course I am. At the very least I need a book to read on my lunch breaks. And maybe a bit before bed.

And how awesome is it when you're reading a book that is absolutely amazing and you can't stop thinking about it and all you want to do is sit and read it?

Like, I'm finishing up the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. And man, I love it haaaard.

Normally, that's pretty awesome.

Unless you're trying to get a buttload of work done, like me, and instead you keep thinking man, I wish I could get back to reading my book. Or I could just take an extra 5 minutes on my lunch break so I can finish this chapter.

Ugh! Good books, you are KILLING me!  Why you have to be so good??

I finally finished the last book yesterday and it was a huge relief. Because yes it was great, but also, I am so exhausted with desperately wanting to read it and stuff.
Also, now I'm a bit burned out on reading. I need to read something completely different. Good thing I have a ton of picture books from the library I need to read for my MFA. That'll be a nice change of pace.

So how about you? Read anything awesome lately?

It's also rough because you wish you could write half that good... (Not YOU specifically. You meaning all of us in general. Or maybe it's just me?)
Reading my second Joe Abercrombie book. The dude can write!

MONSTER by Walter Dean Myers. SERVANTS OF THE STORM by Delilah S. Dawson. And, I'm not finished yet, but THE REVELATION OF GABRIEL ADAM by S.L. Duncan is really good so far.

Oh yeah... love getting sucked into a great read, but it DOES make getting stuff done hard. I'm currently reading GODS BEHAVING BADLY, which is cute--I like it--but it isn't a full on suck you in book, which is good, because I am also editing and would like to FINISH that before NaNoWriMo.

I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Days of Blood and Starlight. I can't wait to read the third book... :)

I get that way when I read a really good book, the kind that sticks with you for days afterward and you can't think of anything else.

It's a good feeling, but I also want to move on. Reading a different genre or getting physical with a (garden) rake usually cures me. :)

I hope you have a marvelous week!

I just finished those a little while ago and loved them, too! Such wonderful characters and world-building! I'm reading too much lately and writing very little but am finding more time as Ally and Toby are getting older.

I never finished that series but I just finished one called The Taker trilogy that I burned right through.

I think you'd like the Iron Druid by Kevin Hearne. I'm loving it.

I love reading picture books. I don't know what I'm going to do when my son is too old for them(we've got awhile, thank goodness) b/c it'll make me so sad to stop buying them/having them around. I read the first of the Smoke and Bone trilogy and really enjoyed it. I need to get on the others!

I recently read GEEKOMANCY. It was all the awesome. Like for real. And wow. And yeah. I totally ignored things I was supposed to be doing to read that book.

(entertainingly, I NEVER would have bought the book based on it's cover, which I thought was terrible).

You're so smart to have your picture books left. I totally burned through those, and hitting 10 normal books a month is getting to be difficult.

I can't wait until I'm done with the reading list. It's all good, but I look forward to reading whatever I want to read. I have a huge pile of books waiting for me.
