In Which I Discuss Duotrope

First off I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for those of you who offered to beta read for me. Everyone's crits were very helpful in catching things I had overlooked and a few aspects I had questioned myself (note to self: if I question something, it's probably worth changing).

Just a bit more work and it's off to the world of submissions (GASP!)

I'm going to use Duotrope's Digest. Have any of you used it before?

If you haven't, it's awesome.

It's a (free) website where you can search for markets for your pieces. BUT, you can do fun things, like sort by pay scale, or sort by markets that respond the quickest or that have the highest acceptance rate.

If you register it lets you save your searches and make reports on markets that accepted your work or declined you etc.

Honestly, every time I go there to play around, I spend at least and hour looking through all my market options.

I haven't done any work on Foxfire since Friday. Mostly because when I look at it now I'm all "Eff off Foxfire, I'm hanging with Hole Ridden right now".

And that, right there, is why I'm not typically allowed to work on more than one project at a time.

I don't really know why I picked up Hole Ridden. I had been planning on revising it soon, but I'm not sure why Friday was the day.

Oh well, the revisions will be done shortly, then I can send it off and I can go back to Foxfire, who may or may not be angry at me for not giving it any attention over the last few days.

Also I want to apologize to everyone who didn't see comments from me on Monday. With Blogger's dickery, most of my comments didn't save. What a jerk move, Blogger.

I was all unplugged again so I didn't comment on more than a few...shhh, don't tell anyone how much I suck.

I gonna check out duotrope as soon as I get to work. How dare you hold out on me!

p.s. There's a really big guy sitting across from me on the bus and his shirt is partially open revealing his cavernous belly button.

the end.

I've been a crappy commenter for weeks, I know. Life's been eating my soul. I'll check out that website. It sounds interesting, thanks. I'm still trying to plod out my last 12,000 words, but the last two weeks I'm just blah.

Blogger was driving a lot of people nuts on Monday.

I have the same motto now as you: if I question something, it's probably worth changing. It's amazing how true that it. I feel like an idiot when I don't change it before everyone tells me to. :D

Blogger has been a very bad boy of late. Bad Bad Blogger.

I've been to Duotrope and looked/lurked around. I'd love to go back and spend some quality time.

Duotrope is one of the sites I use for submitting, esp. short stories.

Don't forget to use google and blogger, too. Search for short story submissions in your genre (and outside).

You might also try East of the Web.

Duotrope has been recommended to me by my writer's group. But I haven't had the time to explore it yet.

I used Duotrope to search for a market for my last short story I subbed. It can be overwhelming, especially if you're not sure what exact genre to niche yours into (like me), but it's fun! There are some zany mags out there. :-)

Hmm...I shall have to check it out.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with changing gears. You'll come back to Foxfire all the more refreshed.

I'm not sure if you emailed me for the beta?? I know blogger was acting up so if you did I didn't get it :( If not it sounds like you got some really great help! I will have to check this out cause I never really research fully the market *slaps hand* and I know I should so thanks for the link :) I, too, have gone back to another WiP cause I found some cool stuff in some research that better applied to an older work. Ai me! Will I ever finish one...

Lola - thanks pal! it used to be called holes, but that was taken. In hindsight, hole ridden is much more fitting

Eric - i will check that out

Christine - it's super easy to just mess around with the search function. it's also fun!

Summer - i know! There's so much craziness out there that there has to be a place for little ol' me.

Teebore - you should! I bet you'd like it. And you know me, i just usually like to be more controlled with the writings

Erica - i did but no worries. I also submitted it this morning to chimera, but no worries if you can't get to it. And can they ever be "truly done"?

J.leigh - it's a lot of fun!

Oh! Cool, we should have your submission then, I haven't checked in with CC this evening but will go grab it out of the pile. Only two of us will be able to take a look at it but we will :) Sorry the email got wonky the other day or I would have already had this done for ya.

Hey, Sarah, just wanted to let you know that I'll be done with Hole Ridden by this weekend. Sorry for it being a little bit late, I'm currently fighting with my school to keep my teachers from being fired, so I'll have your story finished soon. Thanks for reading and commenting. Always. Write on!
