In Which I Start Again

So now that I'm querying, I've found that I have some more free time. The time that used to be spent editing. Cuz querying involves moments of work, followed by long stretches of waiting.

I needed something else to do. I did some CP work, I read some bookage, but neither of those were cutting it. Then I realized, what I really needed, was a new WIP.

funny pictures - Teh rabbit goez rownd teh tree..an I chasez it.

Did I want to start something new, though? I have plans to participate in NaNo again this year, and I worry that if I start a new novel now, it may interfere with NaNo (or, more specifically, NaNo would interfere with the new WIP)

So I did some maths. I wrote Glimpse in less than 2 months. Then I revised and edited for about 4 months.

If I started a new novel in May, and I more or less followed the same timeline as Glimpse, I could be done with it by November, in time to start something new for NaNo 2011.

I've been brainstorming on two new ideas, so I think I'll use the more developed one for my new WIP and the other one for NaNo 2011.

At the very least, a new WIP will hopefully keep my mind off of checking my email so much.

Now I've got to mess around with the steps of the snowflake method I use, try to come up with a working title (so hard) and figure out if this story needs to be told in 1st POV or 3rd.

How about you? Started anything new lately?

I sort of understand where you are coming from in that although I have my current WIPs to finish, I'm always thinking about the next idea. When would I start it? Would it be for NaNo or before or after? Decisions. Decisions.

I think you are doing the right thing by concentrating on the next project but don't worry about NaNo until nearer the time. I'm sure it will all fit into place!

I haven't written anything in awhile. The kitchen reno is driving me nuts! But I did get a great idea from a friend and I definitely want to work it out for another book.

Love your mental energy! I'm between projects at the moment, a good thing...this house needs a spring cleaning!

Once I start to query my current project, I'll start another one. I find it gives me an outlet to stop obsessing with the waiting. Yeah, right. LOL.

So start that new project. Read through that TBR pile. I'll be cheering you on :)

Start the new project!
My current piece is with my critiquers and test readers, giving me room to breathe. And start reading their work!

Good idea! And I see you're playing Portal 2.

I'm waiting on Evan to finish reading my rough draft--as well as giving myself some breathing space from it--before I pick it up for edits. I've been reading like a monster, though, and I love it! I miss reading.

I'm about to finish up with Ezio, but I'm hoping a little bird might bring me Brotherhood for my birthday.

As you know, I've been working on some edits. I've stopped though so someone *points at Summer* finishes and lets me know what she thinks before I move further. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me as my first draft was VERRA VERRA rough.

Good god, how 'bout you just chillax for awhile? You're making me feel even lazier than I already know I am..

Or, OR!!! Go finish your Joachim/Cilka book. I still want to know how that ends.

Ellie - yeah, i mean, as long as i'm done with the first draft by then, i should be fine

Anne - Yay! New ideas are the best!

Aspiring - they are indeed!

Kittie - oddly enough, our house isn't too messy right now...

Lindsay - it's the down time that really weighs on me. That's when my brain goes cray cray!

Alex - Yay for the sequel!

Summer - mmmm Ezio. Totally a worthy b-day present

Hannah - eh, i'd work on the edits anyway. At least it will keep you busy and get you in the right mindset

Teebore - The problem is, when i relax, that's when the worrying and the hoping attacks me. So i need a distraction. And unfortunately, Cilka/Joachim would not quite cut it

Damn you!! Their story cries out to be told!!!

I just finished a new story, but I've been told to add another couple 4000-5000 words, so that's where I am. --almost done.

Something new and fresh kind of goes hand and hand with spring, no?

Sarah Ahiers said...

Teebore - Hah! And no worries, it's not going anywhere. There's just some persistent stories in front of it

Kodas - oh, like you're one to talk! I know how busy you are, Missy! FB told me so!

Holly - true enough, though i'd believe it more if it didn't snow again this morning

I'm jealous that you get to start TWO new projects this year! I feel somehow stuck, like I can't start something new until my past 2 NaNo's are in *perfect* shape. Ugh. You know how long that's going to take? I'd rather start writing a new story. That's the exciting part!

Spakedom said...

Omyes. Now that I will be querying I knew I needed something non-Spake related or I would drive myself crazy with worry, so I started a new project.

I wish thee the best of luck with your querying journey. :D

I'm actually scrapping a project (a series to be precise) in order to start something more exciting!

I have two new ideas, I am possibly going to be writing BOTH during November :) Set myself an even greater challenge than usual! And I have a third work I think I will be working on during June. :)

You sound disciplined. I have several stories I'm in the middle of right now, and I don't make myself finish one to work on the other (maybe that's why I never finish anything?!?! ;). Must learn discipline!

My newest idea took hold several weeks ago, and convinced me to drop everything else and focus on it, so that's what I'm doing. No title yet though. . .

First person POV for the win!

Sarah Ahiers said...

TL - i'm lucky enough that i get bored easily, which means it's in my best interest to finish things as fast as possible before i abandon it

Spake - you too! And try not to let the worrying get to you

Vegas - oooh daring and exciting!

Trisha - WoW! You're way more ambitious than me!

Kristin - ooh, disciplined is a nice way to put it. Much better than "anal" anyway

I think it's a great idea, and it gives you a nice challenge/deadline as well. I'm doing something similar with my WIP--I want to finish a rough draft of it before I start on the sequel of my book that's about to go out on submission! And I want to do that Book 2 for NaNoWriMo as well.

2 months/4 months is really impressive! I bet you'll have no trouble getting another book polished off before November. Good luck!

Sarah Ahiers said...

Bohemienne - Thanks! And that's a good point about the deadline. I do seem to work better with one in front of me

2 months, man you are fast.
I feel like mine take more like 2 decades!

Ninja Girl said...

2 months IS fast! You go girl.
I'm working on a WIP now, about 4 chapters in. It's kinda strange after you've spent so much time on another story, writing the synopsis, the query, perfecting the novel itself. But I definitely think it helps with the waiting ;)
