I had a buuuusy week last week. But it was a fun busy!
First, Matt came to the Twin Cities for a visit!
You know Matt MacNish, right? Of course you do!
He arrived on Wednesday and there was an awesome dinner with Matt, his friend Heidi, Steve Brezenoff, Bryan Bliss, Kelly Barnhill, Hannah Kincaid and me. It's really awesome meeting someone in person that you've been such good friends with online for so many years.
Then, Thursday, Andrew Smith was in town. He was speaking at a Teen Writer's Conference, which I couldn't go to because I'm not a teen, but that night he did a reading and signing at one of our local kid's bookstore (Addendum Books) and that was super fun. Matt and Steve and Bryan were there, and so was Carrie Mesrobian and Andrew Karre (who both had to miss dinner the night before). Also my good friend TL Conway made it and brought a visiting Adrianne Russell.
Andrew let us pick what he should read from, so I said GRASSHOPPER JUNGLE, and then after that he read from his forthcoming book THE ALEX CROW. It sounds amazing.
Then! Friday morning, it was breakfast with Matt again, and Tricia and Adrianne. Breakfast was delicious and the company was awesome.
After that I had to say goodbye to Matt and Adrianne (Tricia and I get brunch together ever couple of weeks) but not before Twin took a picture to commemorate the awesomeness of cool people, hanging out.
All in all, it was an awesome week.

Good for you! It's great to be able to meet with online friends. It's a neat feeling to know someone so well before you actually see them in the flesh.
That's awesome you got to hang with Matt and the others!
It was so wonderful finally getting to meet you! Thursday night was amazing, and the first time I'd heard Andrew read aloud, but breakfast on Friday was the perfect recovery from a late night.
"which I couldn't go to because I'm not a teen"
For whatever reason that line made me laugh out loud. Look at you hobnobbing with writers. They are the best kind of people.
Always fun to hang with writer buds. I'm headed to a weekend writer retreat this weekend.

Way to bury the lead. Where did you eat? ;)
Oh my. I wish I was there. I want to go out and see the Twin Cities with a guide!
That looks like it was so much fun! I need to do more IRL writer stuff.
That tears it, I'm going to go find an IRL writer's group in my area. Look out Mendocino!
Very fun, can't beat good buddies & (hopefully)good food!
Oh, that's awesome! You know, every time I see Matt I am always RE-shocked how tall he is. I want to meet him--I'm always the tall one and like it occasionally when I'm not. I definitely want to meet you and Hannah, too--if there is a Chicago area conference, we should make a point of hitting the same one.
